Alex Revell - Lighting Decisions

In Scene One, artificial lighting will be extremely important. As the room will be pitch black, the light will create an amazing effect on Liam. The use of this light on Liam will seperate him from the rest of the room and it will show he is the main subject on this scene. It will be used rather as a spotlight. The lighting will also be used to create a silhouette of the antagonist (me), to create a dark effect and suspense.

Spotlight effect on the chair
In Scene Two, as it will be outside in the day, we won't be able to use any artificial lighting as we will have no electric source.

Therefore, we will only be using artifical lighting for scene one of our film. We would use lighting in Scene Two if we could, but unfortunately that isn't possible. However, lighting will be crucial to our film in scene one.

We want to use a similar effect used in Reservoir Dogs where there is a spotlight on the victim. We want it to be identical to this except the whole room will be dark surrounding Liam.

Health and safety risk assessments

In our opening, health and safety is not really a factor are only a few things that could be seen as minor risks which we will asses and deal with accordingly. One of these factors is that, because were filming in a basement, there are no plugs for our lighting so we will have to use extension leads to another part in the house which is at the top of some stairs. We will address this by taping the extension leads to the walls so that it wont trip anyone up while we are filming. However, we will not be actually using the stairs for a part in our opening so that is the only factor concerning the scenes set in the basement. Another factor is that we will be filming near a road but it is only quiet, concerning traffic etc. The only thing we can do about this is that we will make sure we film as far away as possible to them as all the cars etc will not fit the mood of the opening anyway.

Alex Revell - Locations and decisions about locations

Location- Scene One- Liam tied up

This is what Liam will be
set out like.

We've decided to use Jordan's basement for the first scene where Liam is tied up. This is an ideal location for this because the room is compact to create a claustrophobic mood. The basement also has no natural lighting so. This not only adds to the "dark mood", but it also gives us a great opportunity to use artificial lighting. Therefore, we all thought   this is an ideal location for scene one.

                                         Location- Scene Two- Chase Scene
We have yet to decide the "exact" area for the chase scene. However, this area must:-
Near Haywards Heath Police Station

  • be a surbaban area.
  • have alley ways, and stairs.
  • not be a busy area. (So we don't interfere with pedestrian activity)
There are plenty of alley ways like this
in the Haywards Heath area, we are looking for one
like this.

Props

Main props we are going to use during each scene, scene one will be in a small basement and our props will be;
  • An old Chair
  • Ropes to tie up victim
  • Chains to make sound effects
  • Duck tape
The next scene is a chase, through an urban built up area, maybe a town or just housing estate props that will be needed are;
  • Brief case for Liam to carry
Costume for the two main characters in first scene in the dark basement and in the second scene where the chase takes place,

First Scene
  • Liam; Smart wear, tousers, shoes and ripped shirt
  • Revs; Casual with smart, trousers, trainers, shirt and jacket
Second Scene
  •  Liam; agian smart but this time,
  • less ripped and ruined
  • Revs; Casual with smart, trousers, trainers, shirt and jacket

Jordan Radford and Alex Revell - Script

Liam- Ruud
Alex- Cole

Our script is  not  very long due to the huge amount of the opening being a chase scene which will have no dialogue. Also alot of our dialogue is voice over  which we will record uing a voice recorder

Script
Black screen with the sound of the main character, Ruud, struggling to against ropes that are tying his arms up and the sound of him breathing heavily

Shot of him tied up to a chair
Voice over of Ruud: What happened to me? How did I get here?

Close up of hands tied up together
Voice over of Ruud: ‘I can’t get out of these ropes’ *struggling* ‘who has done this to me’ *angered*

POV shot with no dialogue but more sound of heavy breathing and struggling

Flashback effect the next scene is a chase with no dialogue what so ever

Ruud then loos around for the second character, Cole, who is very slightly visible with the use of lighting and editing

*Cole shakes briefcase he is holding*
Ruud: How did you get that!?

Film will then fade out

Synopsis of story - Jordan

It is the story of a man who has found himself in a situation that he knows nothing about. He doesnt know how he got there, where he is or who got him in this situation. The character goes through a series of flashbacks which allow him to try and recall how ended up tied up to a chair in a damp, dark enviroment. The audience will be in a point of perspective from the character and feel the mood that he is feeling. The character will then be revealed and the two will confront later on in the film.
